Year 8 Media offers students the chance to explore media within the realm of popular culture, focusing on using film language (codes and conventions) to effectively communicate with a specific audience. Students start to solve problems, work as a team, follow timelines, and use processes and strategies to ensure the safe and responsible use of media equipment. This course is largely production-based and very hands-on, providing opportunities to develop filming and editing skills, which will be beneficial for media studies in the following years.

Media has been a refreshingly different elective as it offers a break from the typical classroom setting with desks, allowing us to go outside and get hands on. It has been fun and enjoyable because it has taught me lots of new skills needed for life such as analysing films using codes, working as a team, collaborating with my team and using equipment with care, especially the cameras. Media is a great subject to do and I highly recommend it if you would like to have a different, exciting period in your day or learn how an amazing film is made! Alycia, Year 8 Media student
